The Tigers were born in 2000, a merger between the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies — two proud, gritty, old-school Sydney clubs.
They weren’t expected to be much.
So naturally, they won a premiership five years later.
2005: Flick Pass Forever
Down by 16. Game slipping away.
Then Benji Marshall happened.
The sidestep. The goose step. The flick pass to Pat Richards — the try that launched a million backyard imitations.
The Tigers went on to win the 2005 Grand Final, playing some of the most exhilarating, unpredictable footy the league had ever seen.
It wasn’t just a title. It was a moment that defined a generation.
